Admissions to Adventist Colleges Abroad programs may be obtained only through a North American academy, college or university member of the ACA consortium. Although the international schools or the Director of ACA may deny admission to anyone, acceptances are initiated only by the consortium institutions in North America. This procedure assures validation of credits earned abroad and safeguards the integrity of the international schools, which can accept only a limited number of students into their language programs.
The general prerequisites for admission to the program are: a GPA of 3.0 overall for secondary students or a GPA of 2.5 overall for college/university students, a good citizenship record which gives evidence of better than average maturity, adjustability and congeniality as well as a willingness to support Adventist lifestyle standards and participate in the spiritual activities of the international campus.
General Enrollment Procedure
The ACA office in Maryland begins processing applications in the month of January. Academy registrars and college admissions directors should make sure that each application is complete and that each application is accompanied by payment in full of all program fees, and that their institution endorses each applicant for enrollment in the ACA Summer Language Program for which the student has applied. Applications may be sent to the ACA office any time from January to May 15. Completed applications for the ACA Summer Language Programs are due at academies and colleges on May 9 and at the Adventist Colleges Abroad office in Silver Spring, Maryland by May 15. Institutions should submit one check to cover all their students participating in the program, and the check should accompany the application forms and an enrollment list sent to ACA by May 15. Applications received after that time will be processed on a case-by-case basis and admission will be a function of whether enrollment limits have been reached or not.
Sometimes students complain that they do not know if they have been accepted or not by ACA. The reason for this silence is that very often ACA has not received a student's application as they are, in some cases, sent together by the home colleges or academies in groups. Therefore, students who are not sure, ,in spite of the various letters sent by ACA, are kindly advised to call or e-mail the ACA office. Students must absolutely notify ACA in Silver Spring, Maryland and their home College immediately upon decision of cancellation. Failure to do so may cause application of further fines.
