The Athens Study Center is located in a seaside resort suburb of Athens. Students will study and live at the Hotel Palace, a class 'A' hotel with excellent amenities and all the facilities necessary for classroom instruction. It is located a short walk from the Aegean Sea with recreational facilities available to students in the Study Center programs. In case this hotel is not available for the study program, an equivalent hotel in the same location will be substituted. This package program includes breakfast and dinner.Citizens of US, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and most non-EU (European) countries need only a valid passport (valid for the duration and 3 months longer than your stay abroad). Other Nationalities: In order to enter Greece, you will need a Tourist Visa. You need the following documents in order to apply for a tourist visa: Valid Passport (valid at least 6 months more than your stay abroad, with a blank page to affix visa); completed tourist visa application; 2 recent passport size photos; visa fee; copy of airline ticket or itinerary; ACA acceptance letter; ACA insurance letter (original and a copy). Check your consulate's Web page for more information. Students participating in the Greek or Hebrew programs should plan to fly into the airport in Athens and should inform the Director and ACA of their arrival schedule (arrival date, time, airline and flight number) by fax or e-mail at least one week in advance of their departure so they can be met when they arrive. A Notice of Arrival Form is available online and should be completed at least one week in advance if transportation from the airport is needed. Students will find the city of Athens readily accessible by bus. Monthly bus passes run approximately $7/month. A small shopping center is located near the hotel so students easily may find small food items, toiletries and other goods. The table below gives the average high temperatures at Athens for each of the months, June, July and August: June July AugustIntermediate Greek (6 weeks and 4 weeks)
During the course of the study program, several excursions have been scheduled for students. They include a tour of Athens, a weekend trip to the Island of Hydra and a half-day tour to Corinth. A full day tour to Delphi is also included. Students are expected to be at the Center on the evening of the arrival date (see calendar) for registration and orientation. Any further details will be forwarded upon acceptance or by contacting the program coordinator. Due to the popularity of this program, and the limited number of students that can be accepted (15 in each course in Greek and Hebrew), applicants should plan to apply as early as possible. As this program does not take place at a Seventh-day Adventist campus, church attendance on Sabbath in Athens is the responsibility of the student. Public transportation is available at lo fares for the bus and commuter train. For complete information about the Athens program, visit www.aca.wallawalla.edu All students must participate in the outings designated as cultural tours. These tours are an integral part of the instructional program. Record will be taken and specific assignments given. Students' completion of these assignments and positive participation on the tours will affect their overall grade in courses for which they are enrolled. |
